How do I speed up a search query on my website?
Perhaps I should have put this question under "Extensions" (RS Form Pro), but I think it is a general Joomla question.
On my site we use an RS Form Pro form to register people (individual and/or group). For every submission there are about 140 fields in the form that can be filled in. We have registered close to 8000 submissions, so the form has been filled in almost 8000 times in the past 2 years. RS Form has registered over 100,000 submitted fields (of this and a number of other forms).
Sometimes we have to do a search to find someone who was registered earlier. When we do the search, it takes 35 to 40 seconds to complete the search. We feel this is way too long. Perhaps 10 to 15 seconds would be acceptable.
At the moment we are using Joomla 4.3.3. I think our server is quite slow.
Now I have heard, that we could speed up Joomla if we upgrade to Joomla 5, PHP 8.1 or 8.2 and MariaDB > 10.4. Is that correct? Would that reduce the time the search is doing its query on the database? Would there be other things that could increase the speed? like changing PHP settings?
I know quite a bit of Joomla, but not a lot about the system that is running it (Linux, PHP, Apache, database types, etc.) So if there is any expert who can give some good advice, I would be much obliged.
